A few of Chloë and Tara's travel favorites.

They say the best friendships are the oldest ones. Actress Chloë Sevigny and artist-cum-designer Tara Subkoff grew up in the same community in Connecticut, and when Subkoff made her directorial debut on November 20 with the campy film, #HORROR, Sevigny was a shoo-in for a starring role. (Subkoff's other close relations, Natasha Lyonne and Balthazar Getty, also have parts, and her husband Urs Fischer curated the movie’s impressive art collection.) Here, Sevigny and Subkoff, who regularly travel together, take us inside their Dopp kits and reveal their favorite place to go off the grid.

Chloë: Tara and I are both big believers in the old adage, "beauty starts from within," so when we're in the air we drink a ton of water, avoid salty foods, and stay away from alcohol. I always pack herbal tea, too, because quite often planes only have black or caffeinated teas. If I forget, I'll just ask for hot water with lemon.

Tara: It's great to travel with probiotics, too. I like Jarro-Dophilus, because it doesn't require refrigeration.

Chloë: There are a few beauty products that are always with me. I can’t live without Smith's Rosebud Salve. My obsession is so bad that if I realize I’ve left the house without it I almost have a panic attack. I use it on my hands and my cuticles. I've always worn Maybelline Great Lash mascara—I have it my purse with me, always—and a bright red lipstick. I adore a strong red. Usually I wear Lady Danger by M.A.C. I always use a thick conditioner, like Kiehl's Color Preserving Mask, and I'm always refilling my little travel sized version because it’s rare that you’ll find something rich enough for over-dyed hair at hotels. Tatcha makes these really lovely, individually wrapped masks which are life-saving if you're traveling through time zones. I often buy sunscreen on the fly because I want as much as I can have, and the 3.4 fl oz carry-on limitations make that tough. So if Banana Boat's all there is, I’ll take it.

Tara: I’m different from Chloë in that way. I'm all about natural skincare products and I'll put them in special travel-sized tubs the night before a trip. I’m more of a bag checker, too, so I usually have a lot of products with me. I'm a big fan of Emminence Sun Defense Mineral Powder in SPF 30 because it has no additives and it will never leak in your bag. Also, the Zen CC Cream SPF 50 from The Golden Door Spa Resort in California is just so wonderful. I love that place—it's an all women's spa that's been open since the 1950s, and it's such a classic. I always travel with Jonathan Gale hair oil. It smells lovely, it's so nourishing, and it's also entirely organic. Rahua Finishing Treatment is a good bet, too. The nut oil will make your hair really shiny. Most of my makeup is from Dr. Haushka. It's all really beautiful but it feels pure at the same time.

Chloë: So many hotels have fantastic products, too. I like to steal the soap from The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotelbecause it has its own insignia on it. I love having it in my bathroom.

Tara: And the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Rocin Cannes carries Sisley products, which is such a treat!

Chloë: Tara and I travel together a lot and one of our favorite places is the Greek Island of Hydra. There’s something about being on that island that allows you to let go in a way that you can’t anywhere else in the world. I think it has something to do with the no-car policy.

Tara: Bratsera Hotel is the best property on the whole island—and the only one with a pool.

Chloë: I’m really into the all-inclusive vacation right now where the only decision I have to make is surf or turf. I love not having to worry about where I'm going to have dinner or what I'm going to do for fun. There's nothing better than lying around, reading, swimming, and taking in nature.

Tara: And I'm all about adventurous vacations. My favorite spots to visit are India and Africa. Next is a river cruise down the Mekong.

Chloë: One element of vacation in which we're both in agreement, though, is turning off our phones. Tara and I were in St. Bart’s over New Year's and had a policy of checking emails only once a day.

Tara: And Facebook. We can't live without Facebook.
