Every Airport Lounge Should Be This Awesome

The SAS "Next Generation Lounge" in Oslo is an airport oasis.

Scandinavian Airlines has just opened a brand new lounge at Oslo Airport, and it looks absolutely incredible. It has all the requisite Wi-Fi, food and drinks, and slick furnishings, but the truly revolutionary bits are the gym, a 753-square-foot facility with treadmills, a spinning bike, a rowing machine, and weights; a full-on coffee bar; and a light therapy room designed to offset the effects of jet lag. What, no sauna?

While it's not the world's only airport gym—Dubai International and Changi Airport both have great workout facilities—the lounge is on the cutting edge thanks to its focus on design. The airline tapped Designit and Koncept Stockholm to create the clean-lined space, which is filled with soothing blue tiles, blond oak floors, and subdued track lighting. Private "telephone rooms" mean you don't have to overhear the annoying conversations of your fellow travelers. There are plenty of showers and changing rooms for after your workout—or just after a long flight.

The lounge soft opened with some of its amenities in September, but it's now fully operational, having replaced the existing domestic lounge. Travelers can find the new lounge after the SAS Fast Track security checkpoint, and it's open to both domestic and international passengers flying in SAS Plus, SAS Business, and anyone holding Diamond or Gold status in the airline's EuroBonus loyalty program. While the Oslo outpost is so far SAS's only "next generation" lounge in the world, "there’s been discussion to open others in the future," a spokesman says. Here's hoping.
