Airport food isn’t always the top choice for travelers—instead, it’s usually more of a last resort to diminish hunger pains rather than a full-blown dining experience. With that very challenge in mind, officials at Munich Airport recently introduced their newest restaurant addition: an Alpine-themed restaurant called Sportalm.

But it's not just any Alpine-themed restaurant. Situated in the pre-security area of Terminal 2 of the German transportation hub, Sportalm's tree trunks, an old barn door, and a decorative stone trough help the space resemble a traditional Upper Bavarian farmhouse. And to further convince you that you're in the midst of an Alpine fairy tale? Perched in the heart of the eatery is a gondola from a real ski lift, where guests can dine on kaiserschmarrn (a shredded pancake), pasta dishes, and salads.

Sportalm is just the latest innovation from Munich Airport, which was ranked Europe’s first five-star airport by Skytrax and made news in December for its Christmas market. “We wanted passengers traveling through Munich Airport to have yet another type of dining experience,” Corinna Born, Director International Media Relations for Munich Airport, tells Condé Nast Traveler. “We already have our popular Airbrau, where you can tour a brewery and dine in a beer garden in the middle of the airport. With Sportalm, you can now feel like you’re dining in the middle of the mountains.”

The two-story restaurant also has a lower-level sports bar area, and an upper-level sun terrace with love seats and lounge chairs will open in April to only further enhance that après-ski feel.
